BRING YOUR OWN CONTAINER REPORT

Building on the success of the Bring Your Own (BYO) movement, Zero Waste Singapore (ZWSG) launched the Bring Your Own Container (BYOC) campaign from December 2020 to February 2021. The BYO movement has continued expanding and increasing its momentum after it began in Singapore in 2017.

To celebrate these initiatives and efforts, as well as leverage on the interest shown by the F&B industry, Zero Waste Singapore chose to launch its campaign with hawker centres, a sector of F&B that has faced many challenges in reducing single-use disposables.

The campaign was carried out across five hawker centres in Singapore and via social media platforms. Stakeholders engaged were hawkers, hawker centre patrons and the wider public, with our main partners being the National Environment Agency (NEA) and other corporates.

This report shares ZWSG’s campaign narrative for BYOC in detail, findings on face-to-face interviews with patrons on how they respond to BYOC messages displayed at hawker sites and how hawkers perceive public and stakeholder action on BYOC efforts. In addition to that, recommendations for next steps on what it means for the BYO and waste reduction movement are discussed.

Full report is available at $12, all proceeds will go to further campaigns, outreach and research to drive effective zero waste actions across different sectors in Singapore.
